No Dunkin donuts? The entirety of the trip was remarkable but the true sauce was happening at the central southern coast, in Vik - where we held up for 2 days while we explored ash soaked beaches, withering glaciers, sheer cliff faces, and sheep.
We also had black bread soup bowls and black crust pizza. Additionally, the first iced coffee since we landed - they’re just hard to find, man. Glad we found it, we took advantage of the forever sun and were out for nearly 16 hours.
Our StoryThe Mýrdalsjökull is colossal. The glacial hike takes us through an ice cave and to the center of a caldera. 100m below the glacier is a relatively active volcano - at least in a geologic sense. It’s eruption cycle identified as between 40-80 years - It’s last eruption was in 1918.
Still day 4We returned to Vik for lunch before heading back out to explore the coastline. Basalt formations and infinite beaches awaited.
Vik.
